This time last week I was eating breakfast in paradise, mimosa in hand. I’m currently finishing up my lunch at my desk in my cubicle. No complaints, but there’s a helluva difference. In November, my best friend from college (Ashley) and I decided to take a vacation to Mexico, which was possibly my first completely selfish vacation – ever. It’s been a long year, and I have been working hard, so it was a much needed break. Although I’m not big on taking pictures because I enjoy really being in the moment, I’ve included some pictures below from the vacation!
We stayed at Iberostar Paraiso del Mar in Riviera Maya, near Cancun. It was my first all-inclusive experience, and I have to say I loved it! Not having to worry about anything is a very freeing experience. The food was great, and there were a ton of options. The drinks, after we thought to ask for them ‘fuerte,’ were awesome. And the entire campus of the resort was gorgeous – from the lobby to the pool to the Caribbean Sea. It was really fun to be able to use my Spanish again. I’m proud also to say I worked out every morning in the gym that was well-equipped and awesome!
Ashley and I went on one excursion that exceeded my expectations. We snorkeled with sea turtles and explored two cenotes – one wet, one dry. The wet one was incredible. Driving through the Mexican jungle and then walking down stairs to be underground surrounded by stalactites and stalagmites and fresh water in which we got to swim – definitely one of the coolest/best experiences thus far in my life. We did purchase pictures from the excursion, which I’ll try to include when I get them from Ash. Coming home was tough, but I’ve had a lot of Christmas planning and shopping to keep me busy. And it’s always nice to get back into a routine, of sorts.
Until next time, paradise…
